Charcoal Portraits: First Attempt II

 

A few more sketches done while in Oregon. After these, there will be my second attempt. :)

  2. you know what i really like about this? your concentrating on the lines! most people when drawing try to hide behind hatching and blurred charcoal. but drawing is all about lines!
    you even can depict energy, tension or movement with different lines!!!

    1. It's interesting, Beate, how you see and can explain what I actually do - I like how you interpret it. If I think about it (which I don't :))... I probably do lines because it's the essence which I can capture... I have no patience for details. Shades etc - not for me, it seems overwhelming. I have no idea how artists capture light - it's such an enigma to me. I admire it, but it's beyond my abilities it seems... or maybe I just have no interest in learning it. I like doodling. :)

    2. catching light with lines is actually easy - just leave off the lines where the light hits the object :-)
      our eyes and brain are trained to see the whole anyway......
